Mike Lansing (Physical Education) was born and raised 2200 miles away on the Maine coastline. An outdoor enthusiast and avid promoter for a healthy lifestyle, Michael graduated with honors from the University of Maine (UM) while receiving a degree in Kinesiology and Physical Education.

As a UM Black Bear, his accomplishments in athletics were numerous. Michael was a 12-time varsity letter winner and 4-time captain. He set 3 school records in the 8000 (xc), 3000 (indoor), and the 3000 steeple, a track event with numerous obstacles. He then went on to set a school record with 5 individual titles in the America East Championship competition. In Michael’s final year, he was one of the top 20 steeplechase athletes in the country, and was fortunate enough to travel around the country and compete against some of the NCAA’s top competitors.

After college, Michael taught physical education and health for 3 years, in which he created, implemented, and enhanced a healthy living curriculum while generating fitness curriculum that was developmentally appropriate to each grade. He also rewrote the K-8 drug awareness curriculum, replacing the D.A.R.E. program, which the district still uses today. For 2 years in a row, Michael’s students scored the highest in the district on their MLA (Maine Learning Assessments) exams in both health and physical education.

Michael is excited to be a part of the ELA team and extend his knowledge of physical fitness with each student who passes through the Early Light halls. Outside of Early Light, he is excited to explore the Utah wilderness, cheer for Real Salt Lake, and ski something other than New England ice.
